The US Department of Defense awarded a contract worth up to $700 million for construction and repair work at Andersen Air Force Base, Guam. This contract is part of a military buildup and is necessary for repairs after Typhoon Mawar. The contract is shared among 10 companies, with nine based in Guam. It covers jobs on an as-needed basis until November 2028, with a possible two-year extension.

A significant task includes a $1.9 million repair of the HVAC system in a laboratory at Andersen. The work covers various general construction categories at Andersen Air Force Base and Northwest Field, Guam.

Guam anticipates about $11 billion in military construction projects by 2027.

The estimated cost for rebuilding Andersen alone is over $4 billion. The typhoon caused notable damage to over 500 buildings at Andersen, with 100 needing significant repairs. The extent of the damage is comparable to that at Tyndall Air Force Base in Florida in 2018, which required a five- to seven-year rebuild.
