Bournemouth Airport's terminal could soon undergo expansion as Regional & City Airports, the airport owner, has entered early discussions with BCP Council's planning department.

The potential expansion aims to accommodate the expected increase in passengers following Jet2’s announcement to base two aircraft at the airport next year, launching 16 new routes from April.

A spokesman for the airport emphasized the goal of enhancing the passenger experience amid these developments. The airport, which anticipates welcoming over one million passengers this year for the first time since 2008, invests significantly in its infrastructure. Over £5 million is already earmarked for new facilities, equipment, staff, and training.
Planned improvements include an upgraded security search area with new scanning technology, reducing restrictions on liquids and electronics in carry-on bags. Additionally, a new airport information desk, enhanced baggage screening, an extra baggage retrieval area in the arrivals terminal, more Border Force desks, and improved queuing systems for both departures and arrivals are expected.
Steve Gill, managing director of Bournemouth Airport, expressed confidence in surpassing one million passengers in 2024, attributing this growth to the airport's diverse range of destinations and its commitment to providing the best possible passenger experience. Further details about the expansion plans will be shared in the future as discussions progress.
