Chile: Upgrades to various airports and aerodromes between 2023 and 2028

The planned upgrades to various airports and aerodromes in Southern Chile between 2023 and 2028. The improvements are part of an agreement between the Ministry of Public Works and the Regional Government.

  • Antarctica: A new 400 m2 passenger shelter will be built at the Presidente Eduardo Frei Montalva Base. It will serve 76 passengers and also act as a waiting area for medical evacuations. Civil works may begin in late 2026.
  • Puerto Williams: A new passenger terminal will be built, considering passenger demand for the next 20 years. Work is also planned to fix existing gaps in safety and regulation. Civil works may start in late 2026.
  • Punta Delgada: A landing point for helicopters will be designed in San Gregorio's communal capital, Punta Delgada. The focus is on emergency response and natural disasters.
  • Porvenir: The Porvenir aerodrome will improve its existing runway to act as an alternative for emergencies for flights unable to land at Punta Arenas airport.
  • Primavera: Upgrades will be made to the perimeter fences at an aerodrome located northwest of Cerro Sombrero to meet regulations and keep out local fauna.
  • Natales: Due to increasing passenger numbers, studies will be conducted to determine the investment needs for the next 20 years. Expansion works on the terminal building are estimated to begin in 2026.
