31 Mar 2024
#76068

Marlon Blackwell Architects has been chosen to design a new air traffic control tower at Columbus Municipal Airport in Indiana.

The project, valued at $11.5 million and partially funded by a grant from the Cummins Foundation Architecture Program, aims to replace the existing outdated tower with a modern structure meeting Federal Aviation Administration standards.

Construction is scheduled to commence in 2025.

The tower, standing at 100 feet tall, will feature advanced design elements including improved safety measures and backup systems. The initiative aligns with the FAA's Sustainable Tower Design Initiative, which aims to replace aging control towers with modern, electric structures. This selection reflects Columbus's tradition of architectural excellence, supported by the Cummins Foundation Architecture Program, which has attracted renowned architects to the region.
