Frankfurt Airport Traffic Summary - First Half 2000:

20 Jul 2000
#124
Frankfurt Airport achieved robust passenger and cargo traffic growth during the first half of the year and two new daily traffic records, reports the Market Research group of Flughafen Frankfurt/Main AG (FAG) -- the Frankfurt Airport company. Total airfreight tonnage recorded the highest growth rate, climbing 10.9 percent to 748,985 metric tons for the six months from January through June 2000. The second quarter, in particular, experienced continuing dynamic growth for airfreight tonnage. With 12.6 percent average growth, 15.4 percent in April, 10.9 percent in May, 11.6 percent in June. International traffic growth -- ranging from 7.2 to 12.5 percent -- was especially strong in all major traffic categories. While total passenger traffic increased 7.9 percent to over 23.3 million, international traffic grew at a faster 9.2-percent rate to 18,933,998 passengers. In particular, the booming U.S. routes are being influenced by the weak euro (versus the U.S. dollar) and major tourist events in Germany such as the Hanover Expo 2000, Oberammergau Passion Play theater festival, Bach Year 2000, and Gutenberg 2000 celebrations in Mainz. Frankfurt Airport achieved a new daily peak of 168,900 passengers on June 30, the last day of the first half. Another new daily record occurred on June 9, when FRA handled 1,407 aircraft movements (take-offs and landings).
