Gerald R. Ford International Airport in Grand Rapids, Michigan, has initiated a significant expansion project for its terminal, valued at $135 million. This initiative was launched with a groundbreaking ceremony attended by key business, county, and airport leaders.

The expansion aims to add 175,000 square feet of space to the southeast side of the terminal and enhance its layout to streamline passenger flow. The improvements include consolidating ticketing operations, expanding and modernizing the baggage claim area, and introducing a new $80 million automated system for baggage handling, supported by a $30 million contribution from the TSA.

This project is part of a broader $600 million initiative called Project Elevate, which started in 2019 to support the airport's growth. The expansion, funded through federal and state grants, bonds, and airport fees, is expected to be completed by the end of 2027. The airport is currently experiencing significant passenger growth, which this project aims to accommodate efficiently.
