The Kenyan Transport Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has announced plans for a new terminal at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) in response to recent flooding issues.

The terminal will be constructed through a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model. Murkomen highlighted the importance of a long-term solution during his inspection of ongoing roof construction at terminals 1C and 1B.

He also mentioned the decommissioning of Terminal 1E to increase airport capacity. Additionally, efforts are underway to develop a master plan for the drainage system in the Nairobi Metropolis to mitigate future flooding, with a focus on collaboration between the Kenya Aviation Authority and JKIA stakeholders. These measures aim to enhance infrastructure resilience against extreme weather events.
